"Each act of perception is, to some degree, an act of creation and each act of memory is, in a way, an act of imagination".
Gerald M. Edelman

MOVING PICTURES

I have always worked in the sphere of non-semantic language. As an author, I seek to liberate form beyond meaning and symbolic tradition. Moving Pictures is the most extreme and at the same time most characteristic project from my latest concern: to achieve, through the exercise of contemplation, a window on our experience with the world and to exempt ourselves from the subjectivising imposition of images.

Moving Pictures is a system that gives the image the status of tool, of cultural artefact. It is an exercise in which I rescue the protoconstructivist concept of search for the truth through natural light, the philosophical explanation of how reason, without resorting to the help of other meanings or basing arguments on the authority given to classical thinkers or other stories, provides us with the possibility of seeking and finding truth without the need for lights other than our own: the freedom of thinking and of existing.  The profound, forgotten idea of Descartes is in keeping with my task in times in which society suffers from visual saturation and an excess of information, thus requiring the singularity proposed.

This great work presents an ironic evolution towards large canvases in the era of algorithmic reproducibility, recalling masterpieces of pictorial expression, worked from an autopoietic computational abstraction of infinite solution, whose materiality comes from a system that expands, collapses and rebalances. Its passing is a constant search, a personal process I share with visitors in these paintings in movement, canvases in constant change. Sometimes in the privacy of observation, I coincide with the brushstroke of Monet and sometimes with the grandeur of Turner, but I also occasionally find the light of Zobel. It is my private adventure towards a great passion: painting. I invite you to a psychoanalytic approach based on chance and dreams, which navigates an irrational enigma in the field of the no-mind and imagination.

This “second nature”, of digital materiality, develops before us as an almost unexplored but everyday layer and its generativity is (or could be) a way for art to deal with this brave post-human world that is upon us.

“Pertzepzio egintza oro nolabaiteko sorkuntza egintza da, eta memoria egintza oro, nolabait ere, irudimen egintza da”.

Gerald M. Edelman

Beti egin izan dut lan hizkuntza ez semantikoaren arloan. Forma liberatzea bilatzen dut, esanahiaz eta tradizio sinbolikoaz harago. Moving Pictures nire obra muturrekoena da, eta, aldi berean, nire azken kezka ongien islatzen duena: kontenplazio ariketaren bidez, gure munduarekiko esperientziarako leiho bat lortzea, eta geure burua irudiek duten inposizio subjektibatzailetik salbuestea.

Moving Pictures sistema bat da, irudiari tresnaren, artefaktu kulturalaren estatusa ematen diona. Argi naturalaren bidez egia bilatzen duen kontzeptu protokonstruktibista berreskuratzeko saiakera bat da, azalpen filosofiko bat, zeinak azaltzen duen nola arrazoiak –beste esanahi batzuk bilatu gabe edo bere argumentuak pentsalari klasikoei edo beste kontakizun batzuei eman izan zaien autoritatean oinarritu gabe– egia bilatzeko eta aurkitzeko aukera eskaintzen digun, norberarena den argia soilik baliatuz: pentsatzeko eta existitzeko askatasuna.  Descartesen ideiak, sakona eta ahantzia, bat egiten du gizarteak saturazio bisuala eta gehiegizko informazioa jasaten dituen garai honetan nik daukadan egikerarekin; horregatik eskatzen du proposatutako singulartasuna.

Obra handi honek, erreproduzigarritasun algoritmikoaren aroan, mihise handietarantz eginiko bilakaera ironiko bat aurkezten du, espresio piktorikoaren obra gailenak gogoratuz, zeina lantzen baita soluzio infinituko abstrakzio konputazional autopoietiko baten bidez. Haren materialtasunak hedatu, kolapsatu eta berriro orekatzen den sistema batean du jatorria. Igarotze hori bilaketa etengabe bat da, prozesu pertsonal bat, bisitariekin partekatu nahi dudana mugimenduan dauden koadro hauetan, etengabe aldatzen ari diren mihiseetan. Inoiz, behatzearen intimitatean, bat egiten dut Moneten pintzelkadarekin, eta, beste batzuetan, Turnerren handitasunarekin; baina, aldizka, Zobelen argia ere aurkitu izan dut. Abentura partikular honek pasio handi baterantz eraman nau: pinturarantz. Gonbit egiten dizuet zorian eta ametsetan oinarritutako hurbilketa psikoanalitiko bat egitera, igerian dabilena enigma irrazional batean, adimenik gabeko eremu batean, irudimenarenean.

“Bigarren izaera” hori, materialtasun digitalekoa, gure aurrean garatzen da ia esploratu gabeko baina eguneroko geruza bat bailitzan, eta haren sortzailetasuna modu bat da (edo izan daiteke) arteak gainera datorkigun mundu postgizatiar ausart honi aurre egiteko.
